At Westminster we believe God has given each child special gifts and talents. However, in a school context there are children who require adaptation of the school programme to allow for extension to meet their academic or creative strengths. Our teaching is open ended to enable extension and enrichment for these children. Classroom programmes, group teaching, and cross grouping between year levels ensure the individual needs of these students are met.
At times children may be withdrawn for special activities and programmes. Parents are informed as to the nature and organisation of these programmes.
Procedures:
1. The classroom teacher identifies the child as gifted or talented and refers the child to the Special Needs Coordinator. If parents identify the child as gifted, they need to speak to the classroom teacher.
2. An identification procedure is followed and a suitable programme is set up for the child.
